Lejeune Memorial Gardens

← All Area Attractions

Jacksonville is a Marine Corps town, and these free memorial gardens are where it remembers. They hold the Beirut Memorial, the Onslow Vietnam Veterans Memorial, a beam from the World Trade Center, and the Montford Point Marine Memorial honoring the first Black Marines.

Why families go

This is a place of remembrance rather than entertainment, and that’s why it’s worth the stop, especially for families with a connection to the military. Visitors describe the gardens as beautifully kept and deeply moving. Older children can learn a great deal here. The new Carolina Museum of the Marine sits in the same grounds, so the two make a natural half day.
