Airlie Gardens
Under the Airlie Oak, a live oak estimated to be about 500 years old, are 67 acres of gardens, a glittering chapel built from colored glass bottles, and an open-air house full of native butterflies.
Why families go
Visitors call it peaceful and good value. The moss-draped oaks are breathtaking, and the butterfly house is the favorite with kids. The paths are shaded and easy for strollers, with turtles, egrets and sculptures to spot along the way. A seven-seat tram loops the garden for anyone who’d rather ride. Spring azalea season is the showiest, but it’s lovely year-round.
